American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Albany is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Albany is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I had heard a lot about Pearls Bagels since moving to the area, but hadn't checked it out yet. Wow, it lives up to all the hype and more. The line was out the door, as expected, since it's a small locale and VERY popular. The system for taking orders and delivering the finished items is impeccable, and the food is top-notch. If you like a fantastic bagel and appreciate a good variety of flavors, definitely go there. You won't regret it, even with the wait. But there is so much more as well: other baked goods, muffins, sweet bars, challah. And not to forget the wildly varied menu of sandwiches and breakfast items. I'll be back for sure.

Love this place!! So many vegan options and always fresh specials. I can tell so much love and heart goes into the whole production!

Bagels themselves are good - chewy and tasty, but the bacon, egg, and cheese was quite dissapointing. The bacon was burnt. The egg was so thin that it was lacey and crispy. It's a cheap sandwhich, so I don't blame them for the portion but the preparation was the problem.

Finally, bagels in the capital region that are edible. We live in NY, but bagels north of Westchester County just don't hit- Pearl's close. While not the most stellar bagel I've had in my life, they are by best I've had in the area and would recommend to anyone. They're a little pricey but I found them well worth my dollar. Will be making Pearl's a weekly stop. I'm going to give them 5 stars, because they deserve it for the bagels, but as a coffee aficionado, the coffee was terrible- which I expected. Didn't have any of the espresso, but I can't imagine it's that bad since you're mostly relying on the milk. If you drink black coffee, I would say skip it and get it elsewhere. My recommendation to the business owners would be to work on the drip. Very small interior, but they smartly will call your order out the window of the shop, so it's possible to wait in your car while they prepare your order. Just be prepared for those cold days when you may need to wait in a line to place an order. Overall, I'm impressed by the quality of the bagels, as someone who enjoys them without anything. Work on the coffee and I could make this a complete breakfast stop.

I got here and there was a line out the door. Couldnβt tell if that was a good or bad thing. Turns out it was great. One of the best breakfast sandwiches Iβve ever had, and best chicken cutletβs Iβve ever had. Absolutely phenomenal, and tons of food for $12. Bagels are great. Friendly staff. If Iβm back in Albany, I will make it a point to stop here
